Our last race of the season was the 38th Annual Stock Car Stampede at the Jamestown Speedway on Sept 25th & 26th, 2009.  55 Wissota Midwest Modifieds were on hand to race.  Scott drew 48 out of 100 for starting positions which put him starting 4th in the 6th heat.  We had to get top 2 to make it in the main feature on Saturday.  The heat was tacky and pretty fast.  Scott got a good start and passed Dustin Strand for the lead coming out of corner 4.  Then there was a caution with 9 laps to go.  Scott got a great restart and kept the lead for the 10 lap heat win.  The 6 heat winners had a draw for the starting line up at the Stock Car Stampede and Scott drew starting position # 5.  On Saturday, the feature was very dry but still pretty fast.  Scott worked his way up to 3rd after about 5 or 6 laps and spent the rest of the race trying to reel in Travis Saurer and Steve Ost.  Scott got right up to Ost’s bumper but then slide off the track a bit but was able to recover pretty fast and end of the feature in 3rd.  Travis Saurer won followed by Steve Ost.  Below are some pictures from the Stampede.  (more…)

2009 Scott Bintz Racing Midwest Modified Summary
Heat Wins: 14 | Feature Wins: 4 | Top 5’s: 24 | Top 10’s: 9

On Wednesday August 26th, we headed to the Sheyenne River Speedway for their county fair special with both Wissota Midwest Modified and Wissota A-Mods.  Scott started 3rd row inside in the heat and moved up about a car per lap.  He almost got the heat win but drove it in a little low on the last lap.  Then there was a last corner caution thrown.   For the feature, Scott got jammed up a bit and dropped back a few spots on the start.  He started moving up and got into 2nd.  He wasn’t ever able to reel in the leader too much.  Scott got close a few times but not enough to make a good run for the lead.  He did get a few chances to try for the lead on the re-starts, but the leader was pretty smooth towards the end of the race.  Scott Finished 2nd.  Randy Klein was the feature winner. We planned to race the Tri-County Speedway in Wishek on Friday, then Jamestown on Saturday and a trip up to Bottineau on Sunday.  However, the weather changed our plans a bit.  On Friday afternoon right about the time Scott finished changing gears for Tri-County, we got the word it was cancelled due to rain.  We decided to head to Fargo to be fans for the night and watch the races there.  It was a fast track with alot of action.  On Saturday, Jamestown got rained out so we went to the Movie GI Joe with the kids.

On Sunday August 9th we head up to Bottineau to race.  14 Wissota Midwest Modifeds showed up for the season championship at the Thunder Mountain Speedway in Bottineau, ND. It was Scott first time this year at the track.  The track staff, fans and racers were very friendly and provided a great night of racing. Scott started outside pole of the first heat. He got the lead on the first lap and won by about a 1/2 track after a 10 lap heat. For the trophy dash, Scott started 6th and finished 3rd.  Brent Perleberg won the trophy dash. For the feature, Scott started on pole and got the early lead and held it for all 20 laps. The track was turning into dry slick as the race went on. There were a number of cautions and Scott was able to hang onto the lead his 4th feature win of the Season.  Brent Perleberg finished 2nd followed by Jeff Hooker.  Jim Morlock won the Season Championship for the track.

We stayed over night at Lake Metigoshe located in the Turtle Mountains about 5 miles from Bottineau.  What a beautiful place to camp.

Racing Update | Back To The Track

July 18, 2009 By: Scott Bintz Racing Category: Racing

Turns out the engine we blew up on Saturday will take some work to repair.  It dropped a valve and was damaged much more than we thought.  However, we got the new engine tuned and installed thanks to Dakota Engine Builders on Monday.

On Tuesday 7-14-09 we headed to the Sheyenne River Speedway.  We won the heat and finished 5th in the feature.  The car seems a little loose.  The track was dry in both the heat and feature.  Jarrett Carter #91 won the feature.

Friday we headed up to Grand Forks to the River Cities Speedway.  Got 2nd in the heat and 6th in the feature.  Still need to do some crankin on the car as it seems too loose coming out.  Thanks to Scott’s bride, Shannon and her help, we were able to race the feature as we had some axle troubles from tapping the wall in the heat.  Dustin Strand #71 won the feature.

Today we are back home and heading to the Jamestown Speedway tonight.  Cross Fingers….

Update 7-19-09: At the Jamestown Speedway on 7-18-09, Scott Bintz started pole in the 4th heat.  About 35 Midwest Modifieds showed up to race.   Scott got the early led and with about 2 laps to go, Dustin Strand made the pass and won the heat.  In the feature Scott started 3rd.  On the starts, Scott seemed to drop back a few spots each time.  The track was a dry slick and Scott was running low.  With about 5 laps to go, Scott was in about the 12th spot and went to the high side.  On the high side Scott started moving up pretty quick and finished 6th.  He had to check up a few times for other drivers and that slowed in some.    Dustin Strand won the feature.

Update 7-21-09:  At the Sheyenne River Speedway, Scott started on pole in the second heat.  He got the lead right away and was challenged most of the race by Rich Pavlicek most of the heat, with Rich getting the lead win 1 lap to go, but Scott was able to pass him back for the heat win.  For the feature Scott started 7th and ultimately finished 4th.  Track was a dry slick.  Rich Pavlicek won followed by Ryan Mikkelson and Jarrett Carter.   Click Here to See the Videos.

Vrrroom to Kaboommm | Racing Update

July 12, 2009 By: Scott Bintz Racing Category: Racing

Scott BintzJuly 10th started with a trip to the Dacotah Speedway in Mandan, ND for the Midwest Modified special.  Scott Bintz got the lead of the first lap of the heat and kept it.  After a caution, with a few laps to go, there was some side by side racing action and but at the end Scott won the heat.  For the feature, Scott started 7th.  The feature went 25 laps straight with no cautions.  Scott ran both the low side and high sides for the track to move up finished 3rd.  Randy Klein won the special followed by Jason Grimes and Scott Bintz.

On Saturday, the Midwest Modified special continued at the Jamestown Speedway.  39 Cars showed up to race in the MW Mod class.  There were 5 heats and Scott started 3rd row outside in the 2nd heat.  Scott made an early charge in the first lap moving into 4th.  Then making a pass for 3rd the car started smoking and bogging down bad.  Scott managed to finish 4th.  Turns out the car blew a head gasket, plus there we a few rocker arms that were broke.  Good news, is the engine didnt go kaboom real bad.  However, it’s something that needs to be taken to the engine shop to fix, so we were done racing for the night.  Jerry Theis went on to win the feature followed by Dustin Strand and Ryan Mikkelson.

7-13-09 Update on the engine… not good… blew a valve that punched a hole in a piston, cracked the block and damaged the cam.

Luck Strikes Again for Scott Bintz Racing

July 01, 2009 By: Scott Bintz Racing Category: Racing

Scott Bintz Feature Win Jamestown Speedway 6-27-09

Scott Bintz Feature Win Jamestown Speedway 6-27-09

Luck finally stuck the Scott Bintz Racing team on 6-27-09 at the Jamestown Speedway with the 2nd Feature win of the season.  After the tornado out at the River Cities Speedway the night before.   On Friday to prepare the car we had to put the 02 Hoffman chassis on the frame rack at Klein’s Collision Center.  The team was excited to race and see how the race car would react after getting tweeked on the frame rack.  29 Midwest Modifieds showed up to race for the night.  Scott Bintz was in the 1st Midwest Modified heat starting in the 4th position.  It was some what of a rough heat with a few cautions.  After the first caution, Scott was in 3rd.  After a the racing resumed he made it up to 2nd and as usual was passed by Dustin Strand, who won the heat.

For the feature, Scott was on pole and led the feature from flag to flag.  However, after 10 laps there was a caution and Ryan Mikkelson followed by Jerry Theis were hot on his tail.  Mikkelson almost made a pass for the lead.  After another caution, Dustin Strand, the 2008 Wissota National Champion Runnerup, moved in to 2nd and with 7 laps to go was driving hard for the lead.  At one point, Strand moved ahead of Scott.  It was a nail biter on the last lap but Scott was able to cross the checkered flag a fender ahead of strand.    If you would like to watch the video of the race will, it be posted later today.  For more details on the race and an interview by the Jamestown Sun, see the Jamestown Sun’s Article.

Scott was also on Dirt Talk Radio on 6-28-09 and that can be heard on NewsDakota.Com in the sports archive area.

On Sunday 6-28-09 the team went to the Buffalo River Race Park and finished 2nd in the heat and 6th in the feature.  The heat was somewhat of a wreckfest with heavy damage on both sides of the car.  Scott started 5th and finished 2nd.  With some help from the Brent Weight’s pit crew, we made it out to the feature.  Starting 3rd in the feature, Scott fell back to about 10th after the first lap as it was a train on the high side of the track.  Bintz slowly moved up and finished 6th.  The feature winner was Rich Pavlicek.

Ending the month in Lisbon at the Sheyenne River Speedway got off to a bumpy start.  In the heat started 6th and started moving up and then got pinched out and had to let off which resulted in finishing 7th.  For the feature started 13th and finished 3rd.  There were to cautions in a row after the 2nd lap and then it was caution free for the rest of the race.  Scott was making the pass for 2nd as the race ended but didn’t quite make it.

Scott Bintz Racing Update

June 03, 2009 By: Scott Bintz Racing Category: Racing

1s LogoThe weekend of racing on 5-29-09 started out pretty good in Grand Forks at the River Cities Speedway with a heat win and 4th place feature finish.  But after that, its been a struggle with mechanical issues.  At the Jamestown Speedway, we won the heat.  Cool, back in action we thought.  Then the brakes went out on the first lap of the feature.  At Buffalo River Race Park, the brake were lost again in the heat.  After some fixing, we headed out for the feature.  On the first caution, the brakes went out again.  After a few laps, had to pull in and call it a night.  On the drive home I had to remind myself “that racing”.  Sometimes you do well and sometimes not so well.  We are hoping to pull out of our not so well phase.  After some more repairs, we headed to the Sheyenne River Speedway.   The car had a push in the heat and managed to drive it off the track.  Oh fun to be a half lap behind.  After being almost a lap down, I caught the pack but not in time to pass anyone.  It was fun driving the car literally all out.  Hit 7,000 RPMs.   In the feature, our set up changes weren’t what we were hoping and the car was still pushing bad coming out of the corners.  Finished the race.  Hopefully after some set up adjustments this week, we can get back into the groove for coming weekend of racing.  The Results have been updated.  Smile and Pass it On.
