Jamestown Speedway 7-17-10

Jamestown Speedway 7-17-10

Here’s the down and dirt on the latest racing action.  On 7-16-10 we went to Norman County Raceway for the first time this season and got 5th in the heat and 5th in the feature from 11th.  Was a fun trip… just took a little long in the feature to get into the groove of things.  On 7-17-10, we raced Jamestown Speedway and won the heat from 5th and finished 6th in the feature.  Very good smooth track, just missed the set up a little.  We also had a make up feature.  Scott moved up pretty fast and got the lead about lap ten and lost it with about 2 to go.  Was a very exciting race and we ultimately finished 3rd.  On -7-18 we head to the Sheyenne River Speedway and won the heat and finished 3rd in the feature.  Fun was had and we put the car on the trailer in good condition…….

Then we went to the Red River Valley Speedway on Weds 7-21-10.  We drew 175 out of 200 and started in the back of the 2nd heat.  The track was super slimmy, so Scott pulled of after a lap.  No since wrecking because of track conditions.  This put Scott starting in the back of the feature in 16th.  The track was coming around and there was some good racing.   We missed the set up, but Scott was able to move up some until the last lap, we he slowed up and dropped to 13th.   Thanks again for all the support from our sponsors and fans.   Up next….  heading to I-94 Speedway on 7-22, the Jamestown on 7-23 and finally Sheyenne River Speedway on Sunday 7-24-10.

The down and dirty…. 3 heat wins, 2 feature wins & 1 feature rain out

Can’t believe we won every race we were in this weekend… wow.  The weekend started on Friday 6-4-10 with a trip up to the Geographical Center Speedway.  Scott started 4th in the 2nd heat.  Scott grab the early lead and won the heat.  The 20 lap feature was pretty tacky.  Scott started in the 5th position of the 20 lap feature.  Scott got the lead on about lap 4 and kept it the rest of the race.  There were a number of cautions and #97 Jim Morlock, who started 13th was hot on his trail but had to settle for 2nd as Scott drove the Dakota Engine Builders powered Millenium Nightmare Chassis into victory lane.

On Saturday 6-5-10, we headed to our home track, the Jamestown Speedway.  Scott started 8th in the heat and powered his way up to the front for a heat win.  He did get a little help with one of the early leaders spinning out.  All the heat races were ran and then mother nature gave us a good rain storm.  The make up feature will be 6-19-10 as well as the previous makeup feature.

The weekend ended with a trip to the Sheyenne River Speedwayon Sunday 6-6-10.    Scott drew 99 and had to start and the back of the pack in the last heat.  After a hard fought battle with 24x Steve Ost, Scott grabbed the lead with about 3 laps to go and won the heat.  After the redraw, Scott was lined up in the 5th starting spot of the feature.  Scott slowly worked his way up and raced side by side #71 Nate Reinke for several laps until he got the lead on lap 7 working the low groove.  There was 1 caution with 10 laps to go.  On the re-start, #15 Flyin Ryan Mikkelson got the lead in corner 1 and 2, but Scott got in back in corner 3 and 4 and kepted it the last 9 laps and captured his first Wissota Midwest Modified win at the Sheyenne River Speedway making it the Scott Bintz Racing team’s 4th feature win of the 2010 season.

Racing Results Update and Wissota 100 Here We Come

2009 Scott Bintz Racing Midwest Modified Summary
Heat Wins: 16 | Feature Wins: 4 | Top 5’s: 26 | Top 10’s: 11

9/6/09 Close to 40 Wissota Midwest Modified race cars showed up for the 2nd night of the Jamestown Speedways Double Header Labor Day Weekend Races.  Scott was in the 3rd heat and it was somewhat of a rough caution filled heat.  Scott made it to 4th from 7th to qualify for the feature in the 14th starting spot.  The feature was dry but racey.  Scott was moving up pretty good and got to about 5th when he hit the inside wall on corner 2 and spun.  Got sent tail end and Scott made it back to 11th.  Ryan Mikkelson won the feature followed by Josh Eberhardt and Landon Becker. 2009 Scott Bintz Racing Midwest Modified Summary
Heat Wins: 14 | Feature Wins: 4 | Top 5’s: 24 | Top 10’s: 10

Wrecked in Lisbon: On Tuesday,  September 1st, we headed down to the Sheyenne River Speedway in Lisbon, ND for championship night.  Started in the 3rd position of the heat and  moved into 2nd pretty quick.  Tried chasing down the leader but wasn’t able to make a pass.  For the feature, started in the same position as it was a straight up race. Moved into 2nd and was running down the leader.  There was a few cautions in the first few laps.  On the restart, I picked low and was on the inside lane side by side the leader coming out of turn 2.    The leader pulled away a bit and coming out of corner four, I was hit pretty hard in the rear and pushed into the wall. I think I was on 2 wheels from the flag stand to the end of the wall.  Another driver was called for the caution.  After the a stop in the pits and a tire change, got back out on the track.  The car was in pretty rough shape but made it back to 7th or 8th.  (Not sure of official results yet).   After we got the car home we realized the entire rear section of the car and fuel cell was destroyed.   The rear clip was barely hanging on to the chassis.  On a positive note, Ryan Mikkelson, who is also sponsored by RealTruck.Com, came from tail end in the feature and won the race along with the track championship.

2009 Scott Bintz Racing Midwest Modified Summary
Heat Wins: 14 | Feature Wins: 4 | Top 5’s: 24 | Top 10’s: 9

On Wednesday August 26th, we headed to the Sheyenne River Speedway for their county fair special with both Wissota Midwest Modified and Wissota A-Mods.  Scott started 3rd row inside in the heat and moved up about a car per lap.  He almost got the heat win but drove it in a little low on the last lap.  Then there was a last corner caution thrown.   For the feature, Scott got jammed up a bit and dropped back a few spots on the start.  He started moving up and got into 2nd.  He wasn’t ever able to reel in the leader too much.  Scott got close a few times but not enough to make a good run for the lead.  He did get a few chances to try for the lead on the re-starts, but the leader was pretty smooth towards the end of the race.  Scott Finished 2nd.  Randy Klein was the feature winner. On 7/28/09 we headed to the Sheyenne River Speedway.  The heat was a little dry but has some tack.  Scott got up closed to 2nd and 3rd but couldn’t hold it.  Finished 4th in heat.  For the feature he moved up a car or so every few laps.  It was a rough track so there were a number of cautions.  Scott got up to 3rd at one point but lost it at the end.  Car was not set up the best for the track.  Back to the scales we go.   Eric Edwards won followed by Ryan Mikkelson and Nate Reinke.

Feature Winner 8-1-09 @ Dakota State Fair Speedway

Feature Winner 8-1-09 @ Dakota State Fair Speedway

For the weekend we headed to Miller Speedway in Miller, SD and then on to the Dakota State Fair Speedway in Huron, SD.  Since the Dakota State Fair Speedway is the site for the 2009 Wissota 100, Scott wanted to try out is midwest modified at the track before the big event .  On 7-31-09 at Miller Speedway the heat was heavy tack and fast.  Scott got beat on the start and ran 2nd the entire heat.  Feature was tacky with dry spots.  Scott moved up and was trying to pass for 2nd and spun out Kevin Bliese with 2 laps to go.  They were both trying to chase down Lorin Johnson.  Scott got sent tail end with 2 laps to go but he made it back to 6th.  Lorin Johnson won followed by Kevin Bliese.

On 8-1-09 at the Dakota State Fair Speedway the heat was fast and full throttle.  Scott moved up a car or two every few laps and made it to 2nd.  On a caution with 2 laps to go he made an attempt to win the heat but wasn’t able to make the pass.  The feature was tacky with dry spots but pretty fast all in all.  Scott made it to 3rd fairly quickly and then Ryan Mikkelson and Scott kept swapping 2nd and 3rd trying to chase down Kevin Bliese who was leading.  There were a number of cautions behind the three of them.  On the last caution, Mikkelson was really giving Bliese a run for his money but as luck would have it for the Scott Bintz Racing Team,  on the last corner, both of them went low and Scott went high and blasted ahead of both of them out of corner 4 for the win.  Bliese got 2nd followed by Mikkelson in 3rd.

Racing Update | Back To The Track

July 18, 2009 By: Scott Bintz Racing Category: Racing

Turns out the engine we blew up on Saturday will take some work to repair.  It dropped a valve and was damaged much more than we thought.  However, we got the new engine tuned and installed thanks to Dakota Engine Builders on Monday.

On Tuesday 7-14-09 we headed to the Sheyenne River Speedway.  We won the heat and finished 5th in the feature.  The car seems a little loose.  The track was dry in both the heat and feature.  Jarrett Carter #91 won the feature.

River Cities Speedway 7-17-09

Friday we headed up to Grand Forks to the River Cities Speedway.  Got 2nd in the heat and 6th in the feature.  Still need to do some crankin on the car as it seems too loose coming out.  Thanks to Scott’s bride, Shannon and her help, we were able to race the feature as we had some axle troubles from tapping the wall in the heat.  Dustin Strand #71 won the feature.

Today we are back home and heading to the Jamestown Speedway tonight.  Cross Fingers….

Update 7-19-09: At the Jamestown Speedway on 7-18-09, Scott Bintz started pole in the 4th heat.  About 35 Midwest Modifieds showed up to race.   Scott got the early led and with about 2 laps to go, Dustin Strand made the pass and won the heat.  In the feature Scott started 3rd.  On the starts, Scott seemed to drop back a few spots each time.  The track was a dry slick and Scott was running low.  With about 5 laps to go, Scott was in about the 12th spot and went to the high side.  On the high side Scott started moving up pretty quick and finished 6th.  He had to check up a few times for other drivers and that slowed in some.    Dustin Strand won the feature.

Update 7-21-09:  At the Sheyenne River Speedway, Scott started on pole in the second heat.  He got the lead right away and was challenged most of the race by Rich Pavlicek most of the heat, with Rich getting the lead win 1 lap to go, but Scott was able to pass him back for the heat win.  For the feature Scott started 7th and ultimately finished 4th.  Track was a dry slick.  Rich Pavlicek won followed by Ryan Mikkelson and Jarrett Carter.   Click Here to See the Videos.

Luck Strikes Again for Scott Bintz Racing

Scott Bintz Feature Win Jamestown Speedway 6-27-09

Scott Bintz Feature Win Jamestown Speedway 6-27-09

Luck finally stuck the Scott Bintz Racing team on 6-27-09 at the Jamestown Speedway with the 2nd Feature win of the season.  After the tornado out at the River Cities Speedway the night before.   On Friday to prepare the car we had to put the 02 Hoffman chassis on the frame rack at Klein’s Collision Center.  The team was excited to race and see how the race car would react after getting tweeked on the frame rack.  29 Midwest Modifieds showed up to race for the night.  Scott Bintz was in the 1st Midwest Modified heat starting in the 4th position.  It was some what of a rough heat with a few cautions.  After the first caution, Scott was in 3rd.  After a the racing resumed he made it up to 2nd and as usual was passed by Dustin Strand, who won the heat.

For the feature, Scott was on pole and led the feature from flag to flag.  However, after 10 laps there was a caution and Ryan Mikkelson followed by Jerry Theis were hot on his tail.  Mikkelson almost made a pass for the lead.  After another caution, Dustin Strand, the 2008 Wissota National Champion Runnerup, moved in to 2nd and with 7 laps to go was driving hard for the lead.  At one point, Strand moved ahead of Scott.  It was a nail biter on the last lap but Scott was able to cross the checkered flag a fender ahead of strand.    If you would like to watch the video of the race will, it be posted later today.  For more details on the race and an interview by the Jamestown Sun, see the Jamestown Sun’s Article.

Scott was also on Dirt Talk Radio on 6-28-09 and that can be heard on NewsDakota.Com in the sports archive area.

On Sunday 6-28-09 the team went to the Buffalo River Race Park and finished 2nd in the heat and 6th in the feature.  The heat was somewhat of a wreckfest with heavy damage on both sides of the car.  Scott started 5th and finished 2nd.  With some help from the Brent Weight’s pit crew, we made it out to the feature.  Starting 3rd in the feature, Scott fell back to about 10th after the first lap as it was a train on the high side of the track.  Bintz slowly moved up and finished 6th.  The feature winner was Rich Pavlicek.

Ending the month in Lisbon at the Sheyenne River Speedway got off to a bumpy start.  In the heat started 6th and started moving up and then got pinched out and had to let off which resulted in finishing 7th.  For the feature started 13th and finished 3rd.  There were to cautions in a row after the 2nd lap and then it was caution free for the rest of the race.  Scott was making the pass for 2nd as the race ended but didn’t quite make it.

Scott Bintz Racing Results Updated

June 24, 2009 By: Scott Bintz Racing Category: Racing

The Scott Bintz Racing Results have been updated for the weekend of 6-19-09.  Wasn’t a good run for the new car at the Geographical Center or Jamestown Speedway.  Spun out the car in the heats and features.   However, had a good run on Tuesday at the Sheyenne River Speedway with the old car.

The Brakes Went Out In Lisbon

June 11, 2009 By: Scott Bintz Racing Category: Racing

The brakes went out again in Lisbon this past Tuesday 6-9-09 at the Sheyenne River Speedway.  This time the right rear brake caliper mount on the bird cage spun and pulled the brake lines.  Guess when we fixed the left side, we should have checked out the right side a little closer.  Started 6th in the heat and after about 3 laps lost the brakes.  Managed to finish 4th.   Tried to do a quick fix for the feature on the brakes.  Started the feature and moved up a bit, got a right front flat, the pit crew got it changed and we had to start at the back.  Got going again and moved up quite a bit… then lost the brakes and had to pull off and call it a night.

The old car is just plain wearing out.  It was built in 2002 by Hoffman Race Cars for Don Gumke and has been raced all over the country.  I hate to think about how many nights the chassis has on it.  It really needs to be retired.  Its fast but old.

Good news only, the new race car (well its new to me) that was wrecked at the Princeton Speedway on the 3rd night of racing is supposed to be back in action next week thanks to Strand Racing.  So the 02 hoffman (which was also updated by Strand Racing) just needs to last for about 4 more races.     Smile and Pass it On!!
