Should Wissota Allow Quick Change Gears? – Poll

April 27, 2010 By: Scott Bintz Racing Category: Racing

A few weeks ago, I got a chance to race in southern Minnesota at a few tracks that raced both Wissota and USRA race cars.   Going from track to track and I was a little envious watching the USRA a-mods and b-mods change their gears.  The quick change gears which are allowed by USRA but not allowed by Wissota for the midwest modified and a-modified classes would ultimately be easier on the racer and cost less money over time.  But that’s just my thoughts and I could be wrong.  So I created a poll.   Let me know what you think?

Should Wissota allow quick change gears?   (My understanding is the promoters of Wissota ultimately are the ones that can make suggestions to be voted on by the other promoters.  Perhaps is enough people vote, a few promoters might consider putting it up to a vote.)

9/6/09 Close to 40 Wissota Midwest Modified race cars showed up for the 2nd night of the Jamestown Speedways Double Header Labor Day Weekend Races.  Scott was in the 3rd heat and it was somewhat of a rough caution filled heat.  Scott made it to 4th from 7th to qualify for the feature in the 14th starting spot.  The feature was dry but racey.  Scott was moving up pretty good and got to about 5th when he hit the inside wall on corner 2 and spun.  Got sent tail end and Scott made it back to 11th.  Ryan Mikkelson won the feature followed by Josh Eberhardt and Landon Becker. Racing Update for the Weekend of August 14th

August 16, 2009 By: Scott Bintz Racing Category: Racing

2009 Scott Bintz Racing Midwest Modified Summary
Heat Wins: 13 | Feature Wins: 4 | Top 5’s: 21 | Top 10’s: 9

The weekend plans on Friday August 14th, 2009 began with plans to race River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, ND.  However, with a rain out we headed to the Red River Valley Speedway in West Fargo, ND.  Scott started 4th in the heat and on the started dropped back several spots.  After he completed a few laps he started moving up again and finished 3rd.  Then the rain came and the races we cancelled.

Jamestown SpeedwayOn Saturday August 15th, 2009, we headed back to Jamestown for some racing at the Jamestown Speedway.  At 4pm this was a pretty good down pour of rain but the track was able to work it in.  32 MW Mods showed up for the race.  There were 4 heats with 8 cars in each.  Scott Bintz start on pole in the 4th heat.  Scott got the earlier lead and kept it through three cautions.  Very tacky track in both the heat and feature.  On the starting lap of the feature, Scott got spun and into the mud he went in the center of the track.  On the restart he moved into 5th pretty quickly and after several laps into 4th.  The 3rd place runner dropped out so Scott got into third for the last few laps of the race.  On a restart with 4 to go, Scott got passed at the end by Austin Arneson (who was bad fast and had been sent tail end at the beginning of the race) and wound up finishing 4th.  John Corell led most of the race but bobbled on the last lap.  Dustin Strand won, followed by Corell and Austin Arneson.  On a side note, the heat winners got spots 1-4 in the feature.

On Sunday, we went to BRRP, Buffalo River Race Park in Glyndon, MN.  Scott started 4th in the 4th heat and moved up a car a time and got the lead.  He won the heat by about a straight away as the car was pretty hooked up.  In the feature, he started 7th.  On the first corner, Scott spun out and got sent tail end.  After that the Midwest Mods went 15 laps without a caution and Scott moved up from 20th to finish 10th.  Car worked well, but the spin out on the first lap didn’t help.  Travis Saurer won the feature.

Racing Update | Back To The Track

July 18, 2009 By: Scott Bintz Racing Category: Racing

Turns out the engine we blew up on Saturday will take some work to repair.  It dropped a valve and was damaged much more than we thought.  However, we got the new engine tuned and installed thanks to Dakota Engine Builders on Monday.

On Tuesday 7-14-09 we headed to the Sheyenne River Speedway.  We won the heat and finished 5th in the feature.  The car seems a little loose.  The track was dry in both the heat and feature.  Jarrett Carter #91 won the feature.

Friday we headed up to Grand Forks to the River Cities Speedway.  Got 2nd in the heat and 6th in the feature.  Still need to do some crankin on the car as it seems too loose coming out.  Thanks to Scott’s bride, Shannon and her help, we were able to race the feature as we had some axle troubles from tapping the wall in the heat.  Dustin Strand #71 won the feature.

Today we are back home and heading to the Jamestown Speedway tonight.  Cross Fingers….

Update 7-19-09: At the Jamestown Speedway on 7-18-09, Scott Bintz started pole in the 4th heat.  About 35 Midwest Modifieds showed up to race.   Scott got the early led and with about 2 laps to go, Dustin Strand made the pass and won the heat.  In the feature Scott started 3rd.  On the starts, Scott seemed to drop back a few spots each time.  The track was a dry slick and Scott was running low.  With about 5 laps to go, Scott was in about the 12th spot and went to the high side.  On the high side Scott started moving up pretty quick and finished 6th.  He had to check up a few times for other drivers and that slowed in some.    Dustin Strand won the feature.

Update 7-21-09:  At the Sheyenne River Speedway, Scott started on pole in the second heat.  He got the lead right away and was challenged most of the race by Rich Pavlicek most of the heat, with Rich getting the lead win 1 lap to go, but Scott was able to pass him back for the heat win.  For the feature Scott started 7th and ultimately finished 4th.  Track was a dry slick.  Rich Pavlicek won followed by Ryan Mikkelson and Jarrett Carter.   Click Here to See the Videos.

Jamestown Speedway 5-23-09

Scott Bintz Midwest Modified

Scott Bintz Midwest Modified

The action at the Jamestown Speedway was fast.  About 30 Midwest Modifieds were there to Race.  Scott Bintz started outside pole of the fist MW Mod heat and won the heat.   The race car ran very well, with but was a little pushing mid corner.

A few tweeks to the set up and we were ready for the feature.  Scott started 2nd row inside.  Ryan Mikkelson grabbed the early led followed by Scott.  Dustin Strand made his way up and took the lead.  After a re-start Scott moved into 2nd and the rest of the race was spent trying to chase Strand down.  Towards the end, with a few laps to go, Scott was able to reel in the leader and had a good shot at winning.   But Strand, who earned 2nd in the Wissota 2008 National Points Standing was able to hang on to the lead for the win. View the Complete Results.

Here is the video from the feature.

Shannon Bintz

The weather was sunny but a little cool at the Geographical Center Speedway in Rugby, ND.  Shannon was the crew chief on this run.   Scott Bintz started 4th in the heat and blew the car off the track on the first lap.   Got back in the groove and won the heat.  Started on pole for the feature and lead most of the race.  On the last restarted, pushed up almost of the track and dropped back to 5th.  With 2 laps to go made it back to 3rd.  Great run all and all.   Ryan Mikkelson, won the feature followed by Jim Morlock.
